About the President
Michael G. Sarafa was a Bank of Michigan organizer and helped open the Bank in January
of 2005 as Vice Chairman of the Board. In January of 2006, he assumed the role as
Executive Chairman and became President & CEO in April 2006. In June of 2007, Crain’s
Detroit Business magazine named Bank of Michigan the fastest growing bank in southeast
Michigan. Sarafa is a graduate of the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate
School of Banking.
In his capacity as CEO of the bank, Sarafa has overall responsibility for management,
operations, public relations and business development. He also has been a leader
in industry advocacy as the regulatory environment in banking as stiffened. He is
leading a five year strategic plan that has kept Bank of Michigan in good stead
during the economic downturn in Michigan.
Sarafa serves on the boards of numerous civic and charitable organizations including
Covenant House of Michigan and the Chaldean Iraqi Association of Michigan (Shenandoah
Country Club) where he was elected president of Board of Directors in 2006. He is
also a Board Member of the Farmington Hills Economic Development Corporation.
In 2004, he was appointed by Governor Granholm to her Council of Economic Advisors.
He has received numerous awards including being recognized by Crain’s Detroit Business
as one of their 40 under 40 in 2004. He was selected by Wayne State University’s
Center for Peace & Conflict Studies for their 2005 Community Peacemaker Award.
Sarafa is married with three children.
